Does alarm need Wi-Fi?

In today’s increasingly digital world, many people enjoy having smart home devices that can connect to their security systems. This means that they can access their cameras or control the lights in their house.

But is a wireless system always better?

For one thing, wireless systems don’t require a lot of wires running through your house or apartment. This means they can be installed much faster and easier than a hardwired system.

If you have a Ring Protect Plus subscription, you also get a cellular backup that keeps your Ring Alarm functioning even when you lose your wifi or power connection to the Fire Alarms Essex. This is a great feature that you can’t get with a traditional landline-based home alarm.

How does this work?

If your internet connection is lost, the Base Station will automatically switch to a cellular backup and continue monitoring your home. This can help keep your Ring Alarm system operating for up to 24 hours.

Is this something I need to subscribe to?

To use the cellular backup, you need to subscribe to Ring Protect Plus, their highest tier. This plan includes 3GB of data per month and can be used to support all your connected Ring devices, including cameras.

Does this mean that my Ring Cameras will automatically restore their connection when the WiFi comes back?

For most Ring devices, including the Ring Doorbell, yes. You can’t operate your Ring Doorbell without the WiFi. However, if the wifi goes down or your network is compromised, your Ring Doorbell will be able to notify you and take action. https://www.youtube.com/embed/KqMmgNEe9Ps
