New York’s sexiest-looking income gap is the highest of all, with its top 10% of earners earning 227% more than their median income. That’s more than double the figure in West Virginia, where the top 10% pulls down 234% more than their neighbors.
The most impressive salary in the top 1% in America goes to a University of California football coach, who makes $5 million annually. A few other noteworthy salaries include a cardiologist who is making over $400,000 a year after 11 years of post-high school education and 3 years of residency work, and a banker making over $500,000. Of course, the list of top-ten-percent income earners doesn’t stop there.
