SCI’s funeral homes are under fire to a new report

Despite its massive size, SCI’s funeral homes are under fire from a new New York City Consumer Affairs department report. It features anecdotes from consumers who have suffered at the hands of SCI.

SCI is the most prominent funeral home operator in the United States. According to the report, SCI’s funeral homes charge 50 percent more than independent funeral homes. This may make comparison shopping difficult. It also raises competition concerns.

SCI is also under fire from the plaintiff’s attorneys and consumer advocates in Florida. The state attorney general has charged the company with illegal practices, including burying the remains of dead people in fields of wild hogs and demolishng vaults and remains at the cemetery.

Compassion Funeral Home and Cremation Service bounced checks from Tri-County Cremation Services

Earlier this year, the Detroit Compassion Funeral Home and Cremation Service was suspended by the State Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). The investigation was launched after a complaint was filed against the funeral home.

The complaint was filed by Tri-County Cremation Services, L.L.C., which operated at 21551 Fenkell Avenue. The complaint stated that the funeral home had received bounced checks from the company.
